Artist's Statement

Mylar installation in artist's studio

I always knew I wanted to be an artist. My love of nature and especially flowing water, I attribute to growing up on the banks of the Susquehanna River in Pennsylvania.

I followed my dream and graduated from Carnegie Mellon University with a Fine Arts Degree in Painting and Design.

My paintings reflect havens I seek for  peaceful places to think about the diversity of our planet. I often paint, “en plain air” or from my imagination. Oil paint gives me the fluidity and richness of colors that I prefer.

When I was awarded a Christa McAuliffe Fellowship from the United States Government in memory of the teacher astronaut, I developed a strong interest in space exploration as a subject for my art. I have returned to this theme periodically, interweaving my abstract paintings with references to the cosmos. I continued to explore new possibilities in my visual journey by also working on clear heavy Mylar instead of canvas.

My goal is to create a vision of the physical world moving and changing and to experience it as something that is exciting, fresh and new.
